Blown, carved, and polished glass.
A contemporary take on the centuries old "reticello" technique, these heavy pieces of crystal feature concentric layers of fine glass threads, creating a three dimensional mandala with striking optical qualities. The composition draws the eye to the center of the piece where a complete void is created by a small bubble. This absence of color, pattern and material contrasts with the intricate line work through the lens. After the hot-working process, the front side of the piece is ground to a perfect hemisphere shape using telescope lens making techniques. The surface is then buffed to an optical quality polish. |
